Volunteer Terms & Code of Conduct

1. Introduction

Dreamleap Initiative Foundation ("Dreamleap", "we", "our", or "us") welcomes individuals who wish to contribute their time, skills, and experience towards our mission of empowering students through education, mentorship, scholarships, career guidance, and community development.

This Volunteer Terms & Code of Conduct ("Policy") outlines the expectations, responsibilities, and standards of behaviour for all volunteers associated with Dreamleap.

By volunteering with Dreamleap, you agree to comply with this Policy.

2. Volunteer Eligibility

Individuals wishing to volunteer should:

  • Be at least 18 years of age, unless participating in a supervised youth volunteering programme approved by Dreamleap.
  • Provide accurate information during registration.
  • Comply with all applicable laws and Foundation policies.
  • Respect the values and mission of Dreamleap.

Dreamleap reserves the right to accept or decline volunteer applications at its discretion.

3. Volunteer Responsibilities

Volunteers are expected to:

  • Act honestly, professionally, and respectfully.
  • Treat every student, parent, donor, volunteer, employee, mentor, and community member with dignity.
  • Perform assigned responsibilities responsibly.
  • Follow instructions issued by authorised Dreamleap representatives.
  • Protect confidential information.
  • Report concerns promptly.
  • Represent Dreamleap positively during volunteer activities.

4. Safeguarding Children and Students

Many Dreamleap programmes involve students, including children under the age of 18.

Volunteers must:

  • Always prioritise the safety and well-being of children.
  • Treat every child with respect and dignity.
  • Avoid behaviour that could reasonably be perceived as inappropriate.
  • Never engage in physical, emotional, verbal, or online abuse.
  • Never exploit, harass, intimidate, or discriminate against a child.
  • Respect parental and guardian rights.
  • Immediately report any safeguarding concern to Dreamleap.

Volunteers must never place a child at risk through their actions or negligence.

5. Professional Conduct

Volunteers shall:

  • Maintain professionalism at all times.
  • Dress appropriately during events and programmes.
  • Avoid offensive or discriminatory language.
  • Respect cultural, religious, and social diversity.
  • Avoid conflicts of interest.
  • Refrain from using their association with Dreamleap for personal financial gain.

6. Confidentiality

During volunteering, individuals may become aware of confidential information relating to:

  • students;
  • parents or guardians;
  • donors;
  • volunteers;
  • mentors;
  • schools;
  • partner organisations; or
  • Dreamleap's internal operations.

Volunteers must:

  • keep such information confidential;
  • use it only for authorised purposes; and
  • not disclose it without proper authorisation or where required by law.

This obligation continues even after volunteering ends.

7. Privacy and Personal Data

Volunteers may have access to personal data while carrying out their responsibilities.

Such information must be handled in accordance with Dreamleap's Privacy Policy and applicable laws.

Volunteers must not copy, download, share, retain, or misuse personal data unless authorised.

8. Social Media and Public Communications

Unless authorised:

  • volunteers should not speak on behalf of Dreamleap;
  • official announcements should only be made by authorised representatives; and
  • confidential information must never be shared on social media.

Photographs or videos taken during Dreamleap activities should only be published where appropriate consent has been obtained.

9. Use of Foundation Property

Volunteers must use Dreamleap equipment, documents, digital platforms, and other resources responsibly.

Foundation property should not be used for personal commercial purposes.

Any property provided by Dreamleap should be returned upon request or at the end of volunteering.

10. Anti-Harassment and Equal Opportunity

Dreamleap is committed to providing a safe and respectful environment.

Harassment, bullying, discrimination, intimidation, retaliation, or abusive behaviour based on age, gender, disability, religion, caste, ethnicity, nationality, or any other protected characteristic will not be tolerated.

11. Conflict of Interest

Volunteers should disclose any actual or potential conflict of interest that may affect their ability to act in Dreamleap's best interests.

Dreamleap may take appropriate measures to manage such conflicts.

12. Safety

Volunteers must:

  • follow reasonable health and safety instructions;
  • report accidents or hazards promptly;
  • avoid activities beyond their competence or authorisation; and
  • take reasonable care for their own safety and the safety of others.

13. Reimbursement of Expenses

Unless expressly approved in writing, volunteering is unpaid.

Reasonable pre-approved expenses may be reimbursed subject to Dreamleap's reimbursement procedures and submission of supporting documentation.

14. Intellectual Property

Any educational materials, reports, presentations, photographs, designs, documents, or other work created by volunteers for Dreamleap as part of their authorised volunteer activities may be used by Dreamleap for its charitable purposes, subject to applicable law and any written agreement between the parties.

15. Termination of Volunteer Engagement

Dreamleap may suspend or end a volunteer's engagement at any time where:

  • this Policy is violated;
  • safeguarding concerns arise;
  • unlawful or inappropriate behaviour occurs;
  • confidential information is misused;
  • continued engagement is no longer appropriate.

Volunteers may also end their engagement at any time by informing Dreamleap.

16. Limitation of Liability

While Dreamleap takes reasonable care in organising volunteer activities, volunteers participate at their own risk except where liability cannot be excluded under applicable law.

Volunteers are expected to exercise reasonable judgment and comply with safety instructions.

17. Changes to this Policy

Dreamleap may update this Policy from time to time.

Updated versions will be published on the Foundation's website.

By registering as a volunteer with Dreamleap Initiative Foundation, you acknowledge that:

  • you have read and understood this Volunteer Terms & Code of Conduct;
  • you agree to comply with its provisions;
  • you understand that failure to comply may result in suspension or termination of your volunteer engagement; and
  • you are committed to supporting Dreamleap's mission with integrity, professionalism, and respect for every beneficiary.
